ASPI - do I need it?

I have just read another thread, in which there was a link to sorting out ASPI related issues. Apparently when you install XP, it doesn't automatically install.

My question is....What is ASPI, and do I need it.

Thanks guys..

ASPI

"Short for Advanced SCSI Programming Interface, an interface specification developed by Adaptec, Inc. for sending commands to a SCSI host adapter. ASPI has become a de facto standard that enables programmers to develop applications and drivers that work with all ASPI-compatible SCSI adapters."

aspi is used when burning, or ripping, or whatever.
It's useful to have.

You can get the aspi drivers from adaptec.

I don't know anything technical about it

Won't it only be useful if the burning or ripping is from a SCSI device? Does it provide benefits for devices on IDE channels?

Nope.
It provides layer for ide devices also (though I don't know how scsi devices would use it)

Yep ASPI layer for IDE. Its the ONLY way a IDE drive can burn data and read in I/O format. Hence IDE drives are stupid-literally. Cause scsi does this on hardware level.
