Can I fix my slow internet do to my LAN?

I attend a college and am currently living in the dorm. Anyways we have a LAN which is pretty fast for web serfing and downloading things from websites but when it comes to KAZZA and some games like Half life it lags extremly. I think this is do t o a firewall or something i have no idea. Is there anyway i can make half life and kazza not go slow anymore?

its not due to a firewall they are eather on or of that would be stupid if it made something go slow

it is probobly because the other people that you are communicating with's connection speed

No its deffintley not everything on Kazaa goes like .001k They do it to keep people from file swaping and playing games because it eats up a lot of bandwith and can slow down the whole network

If it's your colleges' bandwidth-restriction to specific servers/networks, an anonymous proxy would probably solve it, although it wouldn't be as fast as it could be because using anonymous proxies are by nature slower because you're rerouting all requests...
Were it me, I'd be nervous about using ANY connection to filesharing networks via a server that has the ability to recognize and slow the connection to said network, as it just INVITES being pinpointed....

Couple different ways...you can google "anonymous proxy" to find proxy lists/services, or get software that does it all for you (such as steganos internet anonym)
