MP3 Player Recommendations?

Fellow Members:

Any recommendations on MP3 player?

Easy file transfer, portability, able to drive decent speakers and perhaps for car use as well ...

CDRs are too cumbersome now that MP3s are here.

Thx.

iPods are probably the best, if you're looking for the best, that is. Runner-up HD's include the Zen, and the iriver HD players.

I have the 40gb version of the creative nomad jukebox Zen xtra, it's light, small, well built and easy to use. I definitely recommend it and its screen is even better than it looks. If 40gb is too much and you'd prefer a smaller player go with the 4gb creative nomad MuVo squared. Creative's players have the best sound around by far.

I dont see why iPods are considered the best. They are expensive as hell compared to the Nomad Zen ( I can buy a 30gb zen for less than what id pay for a 15gb ipod). That and the Zen has a signal-noise ratio of 98 decibels, and Apple has not chosen to release the iPod's ratio. The Zen can do everything the iPod can do with a firmware upgrade, too. Also, isn't the iPod's battery unreplaceable?

All true, but the reason I believe most consider the IPOD the best is because is is very small and"stylish".

www.ipodbattery.com, if it's outa warrenty it's 50 bux, free if in warrenty. I like my iPod, have it hooked into my Pioneer car cd player. It can also be used as a portable harddrive, nice for transfering lots of data around instead of burning cd's or dvd's. Also i installed an OS on it to test something out (on my mac).

Also i think apple is giving 10% off cupons for iPods, and if your a student (or know a student) you can get it cheaper. Amazon usually has cheaper iPods and dont charge sales tax.

BTW: I know many ipod owners (have owned 3, all 3 generations) and never heard of a battery problem or had one.

I have an RCA CD/MP3 player, and it works fine for me. I can put 700mb of data on a disc, and is anyone realistically going to need to listen to more music than can fit on a few 700mb discs in mp3 format in one outing?
Oh, and it fits in a pocket, so it's portable
