Video Card Brand

Is eVGA a good brand for video cards? I'm looking for a low end video card for around 50 bucks for my brother and was looking @ the eVGA GeForce4 MX440se 128 and was wondering if it was a good video card or at least OK. Also i just found the Sapphire Radeon 9200se 128MB for around the same price. is one or the other better? If there are any other good video cards for around 50 dollars please reccomend

low end, well, some makers use higher quality pcb, some have other various aspects

sapphire is just ati oem, as far as i know, i have a sapphire card, it runs good

the geforce 4 mx line sucks in my opinion, i suggest the radeon

also, if you dont really need it, you would likely be fine with a 64mb card, they are a bit cheaper, and you have some better names, like gainward available ~ but newegg has few options under $50 even with a 64mb card, thats where i would suggest you shop, if you arent

i have a ge force 4 mx440 64mb ram card in my computer right now. when people say that these cards suck, what they mean is you cant play in high resolutions with all the goodies turned up. sure my roommate's 9800 pro looks nicer than mine, but i still play battlefield 1942, need for speed underground, call of duty, halo, etc. on mine.

from what i have heard, i would suggest the 9200. if at all possible stay away from the SE cards as they are "stripped-down-to-nothing editions" it would probably be worth it to get a np (non pro, non SE).

but, if it is for moderate gaming and you can stand average graphics and money is a big issue, the mx440 is a good choice

well, i say they suck because they are not truly geforce 4's
if you are after low end, then it doesnt really matter i suppose, but thats just my opinion

if you can just spend alittle more money you should be able to find a 64mb or even a 128 mb ti4200 for around 60-90$ that would be a much better pic the a mx or a 9200 by far . but if you can't spend the extra . either the mx or the 9200 will work fine . like butch says . if you don't need a really high res or all the eye candy on either will work fine . my son ran halo on a 32mb gf2 for the longest till he got a 9600xt about 3 weeks ago .

check the newegg refurb section monday or tuesday . you can get ti4200's there alot of times for about 60-75$ . that is alot better money spent than a gf4 mx or the ati9200 in any version .

We have a GF4 MX440se in my wife's machine and it works just fine. She just plays TSO, but it also runs Counter Strike, Diablo II and myriads of other online games our son likes to play without a hitch.

While i agree that they are not truly GF4, in all fairness the naming scheme was not intended to fool anyone...they'd have had to called it a GF2-2 or something...

I run a GF4 MX440se myself (yes, se) and have no complaints...pretty decent card IMHO. Granted, not top end, but I have yet to find something that won't run on it...

I disagree completly!
"GF4 MX440se"

Looksy. Geforce 4. If that dont imply a Geforce 4 chip (GPU) then what does? But its not. Its a Geforce2 chip. How about calling it a Geforce2 Ultra II or somthing. I know why. Cuase then folks would say-hmmm G2. G3 then G4. So G2 is like 2 gens old and slow. Yep. See then they would KNOW what they were getting. They did it on purpose no doubt about it. As for my card plays this and that. I have a radeon 7500 that still plays even Bf 1942. But its AWFULL. Its jittery with ANY detail lv at all. Cranked ALL THE WAY DOWN it runs fine. My 9800 runs maxed out and over 100fps. The 7500 and the G4 mx440se are pretty close in speed. So with that being said. Going a G4 mx anything today is a horrible mistake. The ti's are soooooo much better are real G4's and only few $ more in the long run and will play tommorows games. Mx only exist cause some folks need internet only pc's with little to no gaiing on side. As any newer games will bring it to its knees. It barely plays what is out now. You think next years games will run worth a crap. Heck no. Little foresight is very helpfull in such descions. A Mx at $50 or a ti at $90 that is MORE than twice as good. Hmmm tuff choice. LOL.

Nevr had to crank down any game settings with ours. It plays anything we through at it at default game settings with no jitters at all. Agreed it's no power house, but for the price it's works.

i agree with AR

besides, you are saying that this card wont play anything next year, but from the sounds of it coming from the gaming community, nothing will be able to play the games of nextyear. ifyou wanna be able to play the newest games on full eye candy, then yes you need to spend more. if you arent rich like so many people here seem to be, then a gf4mx440 can suffice. in fact i think i got more than my money's worth out of it. i agree this card or that card is better, but they asked about 2 specific cards or any around $50. of course a $90 card will perform better than a $50. that is why it is $90.... if they wanted to spend $90 then they would have asked "or any other cards around $90."

"My 9800 runs maxed out and over 100fps."

your graphics card cost more than my entire computer did. and you know what, i cant tell the difference between 80 and 100 fps. and you know what else? I probably enjoy the same games just as much, if not more than you.

and you know what? I am officially done ranting for the moment...

ps. $40 can seem like a lot to some people. its not like i could go outside and dig up an extra $40 just like that. if i could save money that easily then i would go buy a 9800 also....

ok, now i am done with the rant...
