java 2 platform thing keeps popping up uninvited.. help please...

Hi all, I recently went to www.java.com and downloaded and installed the java 1.4.2 runtime engine (and whatever else comes with it)....

since then.. at random times, the java plugh-in Control panel icon just appears in the system tray. I don't want it on (and I haven't been able to find any processes associated with it)... however, I also can' tfigure out why it keeps popping up.

can anyone help me out here?

thanks in advance,
-z

Almost sounds like you may have some spyware running in the background - connecting to an internet source.

Have you checked your system for spyware/adware and virii?

Go into your control panel and open up Java console or Java plugin or whatever it's labeled. Under the browser taab, deselect your browser. It shouldn't open up anymore.

Uswing Limewire or something else that needs that Java?

What about trying an earlier version, like 1.4.1_02 or 1.3.1_02?

What OS are you using? Have you checked your IE settings, making sure that the MSVM and Sun RTE are not competing for the same processes? (just a guess)...
