System restore question win xp

I'm sure this question has been beaten do death, but I'll ask anyway. I noticed when I go into system restore, there is not a restore date available for everyday. I know I have turned the computer on everyday, but seems to skip some days. Why is this?

Also, do you need to actually set a restore date or just use windows default?

AFAIK restore points are only automaticly made when something is changed in the computer. i clear all my past restore points when my computer is workin properly and make one for that day so to save disk space and to clean up the clutter then do disk clean and disk defrag.

they are made automatically, but not every day....with ME it seemed to be like every 3 to 5 days. Im not sure of the rhyme or reason to it.

I think it will also sometimes make a restore point when u install software etc.

Its not really necessary to make your own restor epoints unless you specifically have a reason....for example if you are getting ready to install some software, it might be a good idea to make a restore point first etc

ok, ran across this

its claiming it makes a point every day...but also it shows how to adjust the frequency..probably a registry hack

also a thread about it http://www.experts-exchange.com/Oper..._20831333.html

restore points are created every time something is changed it the system, software added or removed, and every 24 hrs of accumalited use, in other words, 24 hr hrs of on time, not in one session, on for a total of 24 hrs over a period of several days.

and anytime you chose to do one manually.
