The XT is better than the Pro.

the xt is better statistically but for todays games the human eye wont notice a difference so I would probobly go with the cheaper one but in a few years it could make a big difference if you are planning on using it that long

In a few years it won't make any difference what card you have, no matter how "top-of-the-line" it was when you got it. The Radeon 9xxxs are designed strictly to the DX9 spec. so they are no good beyond that.

Common is it really that much better?
The only difference between the two is the core and memory speeds.
And the core speed difference is a mere 32 MHz, and the memory is 30 MHz between the 256 MB Pro and the XT and 50 MHz between the 128 Pro and the XT.

Those numbers do not warrant the money spent on an XT. And in they will not really make much of a difference in the a few years either. Go for cheaper.

Would you really notice that much of a difference from a 9700pro to a 9800pro??? If it were me, I would just stick with the 9700pro for now, and wait for prices to drop, or wait for a new card to come out. But i guess if you have lots of extra money (unlike me).
