new system

OK, I give up. I am trying to build a new system.

DFI AD77 mobo
Athlon 2400 cpu
512 pc2700 ram (2@256)
Seagate 40gig HD
ATI Radeon 9200 AGP8x video

I cannot get through an entire XP install. I have both home and professional versions. It always errors out somewhere along the line. Never the same error two times in a row. I either have errors on the file loads or get all the way through that and it kicks me out on the install.

So...... my son's system(which I also built) has a Biostar mobo and an athlon 1600 cpu. I got the bright idea to try loading XP onto the seagate mentioned above with his system. I put the video card on his board and loaded the o/s with no hitches. Just had to load the video drivers when I rebooted. So I figured the only diff on the other system would be the mobo and processor.

I reinstalled the the hd and video card in the new system and am still getting the windows did't shut down right error. It will not load in either regular or safe mode. Just keeps trying to reboot.

I have followed other threads and tried their suggestions all to no avail.

Any ideas out there?

sounds like a ram issue . try removing 1 stick for the install . if you get errors replace it with the other and try again

OK I'll try that. When I go into setup on the mobo it sees all the ram I don't know this means its good or not. Let's see what happens.

you must be a genius. I removed one stick and it seems to be going well as o this time. At least i've gotten farther than i ever have.

Does this mean that the stick i removed is bad or can i reinstall it?
