At Home Mozilla Firebird?

So I did install Mozilla yesterday, but since I heard many recommended Firebird I decided to give it a try. I downloaded it, unzipped it , but it didnt install. But when I clicked on the icon the browser started. So my question is, doesnt it install on the hard drive? It works properly but I dont see it on the Add/Remove section. Is it normal this way? Never used it, thats why I am asking

You don't install it. Just make a shortcut to the .exe and run it.

i believe mozzie is the full suite (browser, email, html editor and irc clients) and firebird is just the browser, stripped down to the bare minimum a modern browser needs to be. still prefer mozzie over firebird, myself, but i only tried firebird very briefly.

I dont know why but Firebird seems faster, and its neater and feels more modern. Its even simple. Its a great browser I must say.

Mozilla firebird has plenty of features and works very fast, however if you want/need extra features try:
http://texturizer.net/firebird/extensions/
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/
http://texturizer.net/firebird/themes/
You should find some interesting stuff there

I always grab the isntaller version, there are implemented installers for firebird, but they mainly stick to zip files.

Also to make your own profile, right click on the short cut you made, and go to property's,under target, add -p switch to it,
"x:\Program Files\Mozilla Firebird\MozillaFirebird.exe" -p
Then it will come up and you can either delete default or make a new one etc for you if you use multiple accounts.
If you don't then probably just using defaul will be fine.

I like using the nightly builds(updated often so you would have to check the ftp for a newer one)
A nightly build is just something the mozilla firebird team will test and add/change code and quickly build for you to test, however normally it is still usuable and not unstable. Things like themes wont be compatible with it, but most themes aren't compatible with mozilla firebird .7 anyway, there has been some great themes for version 6 that had dropped support on as well. However the default theme looks nice and there are still some good ones.
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o...ebirdSetup.exe
I'm running the latest and it's working pretty well btw.

Mozilla has plenty of features and mozilla firebird is in a word, "stripped down"
Still a great browser for not even being up to 1.0.
Email and the browser are seperate unlike mozilla, thunderbird and firebird.
Edit:
Take out the -p if you no longer want that profile screen to come up. However it will remain if you have it choose to every time.

I generally switch between the two, also I posted the link to the .exe for the 0.8.0+
You can try the nightly build, it works and that is the installer.

For version 7 if you would rather stick with it, go here and download it:
http://texturizer.net/firebird/download.html
http://www.nidelven-it.no/articles/i...on_to_firebird
Firebird Installer 0.7
Mozilla is much easier to look at when you use a skin for it, like modern which is built in or gray modern(can find skins at: http://mozilla.org/themes/download/ )

I prefere it over any other browser, it works great and the tabbed browsing makes it much easier to navigate techimo and other forums and sites

What are the difference between the Version 8 and the last version 7? Isnt the 8 version still BETA? But since you said it doesnt have any bugs or issues I might give it a try. Thanks anyways for all the helping info!

Well it doesn't mean it doesn't have a bug somewhere, it's just i've been using it and it never crashed on me, so it seems quite stable, version 8 is still a nightly build, yes.
The version number in the exe is still version 0.7.0+
However in mozilla firebird it shows up as :
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.2; en-US; rv:1.7a) Gecko/20040131 Firebird/0.8.0+

There are a few nice features like the download manager in the latest versions.
However mozilla firebird 0.7 is still great. The thing about version 8, if you come accross a bug you report it so it then can be fixed.
So it's not for everyone.
