A7N8X Sound Tips...

For those of you having sound problems with your A7N8X mobo; read this...

I have a deluxe model of this mobo and the sound has really been ticking me off. While watching DVDs and even listening to some mp3s and cds, the sound will periodically stop for a brief second. And especially while playing Counter Strike, the sound would just QUIT in the game. The menus would work fine, and any kind of other media in windows, but not actually in game.

I went back to my ol' school and picked up my SB Live! manufactured in 1999 and put that bad boy in. Just rebooted, got the updated drivers and I must say I'm very satisfied. I dont know why Asus has such a prob with the onboard sound on these boards, but my advice is to leave it. Like I said - even with my 99 model SB I find it much more pleasing than the board's. Although I haven't tried CS with it yet, I definately approve of the quality compared to the board.

I hope this will encourage you guys to go back to the ol' school and try different things.

Send a message via ICQ to JohnE.
I'm using the A7N8X Deluxe's onboard audio (nVidia SoundStorm) along with my M-Audio Delta 66 and I've had no problems at all. The ASIO drivers don't offer the same latency as the Delta, of course, but they work well enough for general use. You'd have to pay me to go back to my old SB Live! card, yrmv.

Well to each his own John, I guess.

But yes GZ - I did install the latest drivers. I even get crashes sometimes when I run the soundstorm program. I've tried reinstallation of the program, but to no avail.

Obviously somthing is wrong with it then. My Deluxe sound runs GREAT. And Ive never had soundstrom crash ever. Id say its sure sign somthing is def uniquely (sp?) wrong with your deluxe. Its not the mobo's in general.

Well

Must be then, because I can't even begin to tell you where i've had success or even love for the sound on the mobo. The only thing I like is I can hook up my speakers and my headset all at once. I know the sound should be superior to the SB but when i've posted on here none of the advice helped.

I still have choppy sound that cuts during DVDs and Mp3s with the updated drivers, and the CS sound totally stopping is what really pisses me off.
