Virus free Hard drive idea

Had a brain storm today whilst worrying about my 2nd (music creation only) hard drive becoming infected with a virus.
heres the scenario.
I have 2 hard drives. both bootable with winxp pro, C:\ contains everything but music stuff. D:\loads with minimal drivers & contains all music related software.

Of course i back up d: now & then, but getting infected with a virus would really piss me off.

so, i thought of this - fitting a 3 positioned switch to the power supplies of both hard drives. position 1 would feed power to C:, position 2 feeds power to D:, position 3 feeds power to both.
if i wanted to work on music, i would power down PC, set switch to feed drive D: then reboot and visa versa.
reason being if i was doing my web browsing or whatever on C: & picked up a virus, according to the system drive D: would not exist, therefore it couldn't physically become infected.

as far as i can figure, this would be a fairly simple task & cannot forsee any problems, but some of you guys may know a little more than me, hence the post.

what do you think?

thanks.

Check this out....

You can also accomplish the same thing by using a removable drive enclosure. Just switch out the drives.

you might have a problem running both then running D because it will then be called C: so all of your shortcuts will be off

also just make sure to set the jumpers to csl

I use the removable drive enclosures from Kingwin .
A tad fancy with the display but at $32.00 shipped it makes it very easy to swap drives around (3) and the piece of mind IMO is worth it.
Kingwin has software that will make these IDE drive enclosures hot-swapable but I have yet to try it.
