Did you select the development tools when you installed? I cant remember exactly what the option is called, but it seams like you dont have gcc installed (c compiler) and some other development stuff.

been a while since I used Drake...go into the software installation screen...then type in gcc and see if it comes up. If it is the reyou should install that and also install the kernel source if it is not installed. you should be able to typew "kernel" into the software area and it will list all of the programs that have something to do woth the kernel. Look for source and install it.

I looking on the mtk+(i think) site but their FTP site wasnt letting me down load it. can someone post a working link for it and some install instructions

Second when i try to install the Nvidia drivers it says i cant be in "X". how do i get out of X to do this?

new question: I had to reformat my XP partition and i doens tload to grub anymore just goes stright to windows. How can i make it boot in the lilo or grub again?

pop your install cd into the cd rom and reboot. type rescue at the linux prompt, and reinstall lilo or grub. use linux failsafe mode to start without x or ctrl alt f1 to open a new tty login. then login as root, and install. can't quite remember how to stop x once it's running, try stopx or or stop x failing that, ps -A and then kill -9 1234 where 1234 is the pid number for the x server

If its in runlevel 5, X will just respawn anyway. Killing it won't help. You need to go to rl3.
BTW to kill X11, its ctrl+alt+backspace (NOT DELETE)
