Nvidia Geforce Fx 5200 problems again

I noticed that many people have had problems with this card and I still cannot find a solution for the problem. I recently got one and I am having problems with it. When a game is launched, it plays for a few minutes and then the monitor goes to sleep and I have force my computer to shut down. Also the sound can stil be heard but it is destoreted or looping. This happens in visually demanding games, BF1942 lasts about 30 secs, Halo about a min, Call of Duty about 5 mins and Allied Assault about 10. I have tried everything including updating the drivers and upgrading my power supply (from 220w to 550w). I do not think that it is a heat problem because I put an NVIDIA fan on the card.

This problem also occurs when I try to run a live linux distro from a bootable cd. I am not sure how this would relate but its something. I use to have a geforce 4 mx 440 se that worked fine.

My comp specs are

Pentium 4 2.0ghz
384 megs of ram
550w power supply
120 gig hard drive
dvd drive
cdrw drive
Windows XP home

I also noticed that my agp slot is on PCI mode but i do not know wat that means. I would apreciated if someone would tell me the cause of this problem and if they can teh solution as well.

In the BIOS under "primary video" there is an option of pci or agp- select agp.

Send a message via AIM to Gettinbye
When you turn on your PC (before windows boots), you'll need to hit a specific key to get into BIOS (I usually tap it until I get to BIOS). Depending on your motherboard, the key will most likely be Del, F1, or F2....

Should be labled

Intital display PCI/AGP
Set to agp. VERY rair one dont have it. Its well-pretty needed in dual card units. It sets which it boots from first. If agp and pci in its the ONLY way to force boot from pci if agp is working right. It may be the problem. May not. Worth a try though. See if you can find it in manual for mobo first.

I think that the problem is that I have a compaq, I found the model on the compaq websited and updated my bios but there are no driver downloads for anything else except integrated sound. I would apreciated if someone could tell me where i can find the drives for the my motherboard.

The compaq product number is 6rpxe1

I fixed the AGP PCI problem!!!

Turns out i had to reinstall the whole operating system again from my compaq restore cds instead of my win xp disc. My settings now say AGP 4x

I dont think i solved my initial problem though, the monitor still goes to sleep during a game but it takes a bit longer. I'd still apreciate if somene could solve this problem for me.

If you right click the screen and click "properties"...then click "screen saver" and you look at the bottom it has a globe symbol and it should say something like "energy saving" etc..click on "settigns" there...how do you have "standy" and 'screen saver" set? Try to set em all to "never".

It may not be related but it is a good easy place to start.

I think it might b overheating, when it freezes up, the heatsync is not that hot but the back of the card just behind the gpu is very hot. I am underclocking it and i am using the latest drivers, but it still doesnt work. Glad u guys r trying to help, thanks.
