Gaming CHAINTECH GeForce FX 5200

I recently purchased a CHAINTECH GeForce FX 5200 128 MB AGP Video Card, and as told by the retailer at Alpine Computers I was re-assured that this card was strictly plug and play. Wrong, or so I think. I need help to try and install it to make it work, I do not know what is wrong! I have the lastest drivers from NVIDIA, I have all the updates from microsoft for my comp. I install the card I get so far.... about 8 mins into it, it does 1 of 2 things:
1.Freezes up
-or-
2.Goes to a black screen and says VGA mode not supported

I have a:
Amptron motherboard K7 - 810CLM6(discontinued)
AMD Duron 1600+
AGP 2.0 slot
SDRam

I have:
Windows XP Pro
20 GB HD Western Digital(Master)
120 GB HD Seagate(Slave)
(2 x 256)512 MB kingsten SDRam <<<Spelling*

I have:
Proview 17" LCD Plasma Monitor

did you completly remove the old video card drivers?
try going into the device manager and deleting the display adapter/adapters. then restart the computer and let it find your new card and reinstall the proper driver.

i assume you have it in the AGP slot, and also what were you using before, onboard, pci card or agp card?

make sure the bios is set to agp if you are using that slot or pci if you are using a pci slot
also uninstall all drivers, then make sure your bios is set for plug and play if possible, mine i can set for plug and play, then use the cd "if supplied" to install the card, then goto the nvidea site and upgrade the drivers if needed.

okay sweeper2 I will try that, but I am sure that I have it set on agp but i am not to sure. The last AGP Video Card I had was a PNY Verto GeForce MX 420 64 MB SDRam AGP card. that was plug and play cuz that is all I did.
I was looking at the requirements on the chaintech card and mentions everything other then Duron, i.e: Intel Pentium lll or AMD Athlon class processor or higher Ibm or 100% PC compatible.
Also, it mentions Full OpenGL 1.4 or lower does it mean I need to update that????

Okay, I know this is long, but here is the info I looked at, I am not sure if you have onboard video or just an accelerator, might need to check that out, if you do have onboard video, make sure it is disabled, also make sure your new card is set to x4 under your display settings, which it might already be at default. That's all I can think of, sry if this doesn't help out...good luck...

You may experience inconsistent graphic performance with textures if you set the Mipmap Detail Level in the ATI Direct3D Control Panel to any setting except High Quality.
I was reading some other stuff but mainly all I get is the same when playing high top of the line games. but I will continue to look!!!
