Epsom blocked printer jets

I have just been reading in a Magazine about a cure for blocked jets on an Epsom printer, the chap in question tried using compatible ink refills instead of using very expensive over priced manufacturers own cartridge’s.

The upshot of this action was that the jets on the printer heads eventually got blocked, he tried using the head cleaning utility, and a cleaning fluid cartridge but with no luck.

The way he fixed the problem was to was to take out the ink cartridges and pour surgical spirit on the jets four times a day, leaving the jets to soak in between times, this he did for four days. Then he run the head cleaning utility a few times, after which every thing was back to normal.

The reason I find this of interest is that I had the same problem once my self, using a compatible cartridge. I always use PRINT – RITE compatibles, from which I have never had a problem, but this particular day the shop had no PRINT - RITE cartridges so I took another brand the jets were blocked with in two days, I never use any thing other than my usual brand any more, and I have had no more trouble since.

Hope this helps some one, out of the same problem, and also I would hate for people to think that all compatible inks are not up to standard, that is not the case.

While the warranty is void if you do use compaibles, after the first 12 months your warranty has expired and you have nothing to loose, if you choose a good (recomended) ink.

Thanks for the tip Bumty. Actually I have always used genuine Epson inks as I don't want the printer damaged by suspect inks. I don't use the printer that much but it does go against the grain paying what is the equivalent of £1000 per litre for ink!

"Surgical spirits" is a non-potable form of ethanol (I believe it's denatured, rendering it toxic).

Epsom, or epsom salts, is the common name for magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, MgSO4 · 7H2O, a water-soluble bitter-tasting compound that occurs as white or colorless needle-shaped crystals, used as a purgative and for tanning leather.
