AMD VS Pentium

Hi I was just thinking of upgrading my computer and was wondering which would be the way to go money wise and performance, thanks.

Welcome to the forum!

This is a VERY common question.

of course, the first thing to ask is....what do you have now??

Obviously if you have a pentium motherboard then you'd want a pentium.

If you are talking about a motherboard AND cpu upgrade then usually the stock answer is...AMD...because they are cheaper.

Maybe if you give the exact details of your system..as much as you know anyway...then it will be a lot clearer.

what do you have as far as

cpu
motherboard
power supply (how many watts?)
RAM
Hard drive
type of case? (is it a regular atx or some kind of smaller tiny thing like a gateway 700 series etc?)

Those are the main things. If we know them, we can give much better advice

to get more bang for your buck AMD is definitley the way to go....you can get an Athlon XP 2500+ w/ Barton Core for around $90 shipped...i have that processor in a computer and it is great!

Good luck! you have to make sure you get a compatible motherboard by the way...you are looking for a Socket A (462)

Good luck!!

Also of course a MAJOR consideration is....what are you going to mainly use it for...if its for games then that is one type of setup....if its for basic use and you just want a little more speed, thats another setup etc

We can help you better if we knew a few things:

>You mentioned gaming. Anything else you plan on using this for?
>Budget?
>What features do you want?
>Will you be overclocking?
