Norton 2002 or 2003 etc??

Ok, is there any REAL advantage to buying Norton AV 2003 or 2004 over buying the 2002 version??

Because, obviously, once you go online an dupdate the 2002 version you have all the same virus definitions etc.

Are there any compatability issues or anything like that?..or any other issues?.....because I am thinking of buying a few for builds etc...I see norton 2002AV for like $6 etc......sounds good for the bottom line, lol.

Thanks, JP

I believe you can't use it for XP, that is the biggest downside, i run nav 2004 pro on the other box and symantec AV on my main box, no problems here, the latest is usually best to go with as it does add more features and scans everything better before installing a program, will search through the .cab files and other installing files etc plus other security updates.
However that does at times take a bit more cpu to have it scan things like it does, however that can be changed.
If you plan on using it on XP then you will need 2003 or 2004 instead.

Maybe I was wrong,
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...475997-2646354
seems to be listed there: Platform: Windows 98 / NT / 2000 / Me / XP
However I figured it applied to that because when at the time I was using norton system works 2002, had to upgrade because I couldn't install any part of it as it was incompatible, however it still could be, not really sure, but amazon is probably correct.

Well so did the antivirus, I think windows XP came out in q4 of 2001, however windows is usually with the date, unlike norton that had norton av out awhile ago last year.
I know norton av 2002 was out before xp tho.
Come to think of it, i forget if it was 2002 or 2001 that was incompatible with it, i'll look through the disks i have of norton.

My bad, it was the 2001 or earlier that wasn't compatible, just checked the manual, it works just fine, so you should be fine using it

I use NAV2002 on my wife's XP Pro box, and NAV2003 on my daughter's box, and mine (we, too, run XP Pro). Our NAVs came as a bundle with NSW2002 and NSW2003. I got the 2003 versions because the bundled version of Ghost supports NTFS and RAID arrays.

You should be able to pick up NSW2003 (OEM/CD media only) for about $25, and you'll get NAV plus Ghost, and the Norton's Utilities (if you want to use some of them).

Comparing the '02 and '03 versions of NAV, they're both very similar, but I think the '03 version is a bit better/faster at checking incoming mail for infection.
