Getting into animation

How should I go about doing this? Should I start out with flash then work my way to After Effects, and if I feel comfortable move over to Maya or just jump right into Maya?

Of course, my interest in now piqued.... What is Maya? I'm aware of Flash, and have heard of after effects...

What kind of animation are we talking about here....this is something I've always wanted to learn..

I use Animation Shop 3.0

Just start playing with it. You'll have fun.

3D animation is very different from 2D animation. In 2D animation you usually have to modify each frame. In 3D animation you "only" need to set keyframes with the next pose the animated object should have. I've started to learn 3D modeling again, because I'm interested in making mods for UT2k3. I use Milkshape 3D and Discreet GMAX.

OK..
I can tell you since i passed this experience..

If you want to edit movies, After effects is the best for that(in addition of premier)...

If you want animations for websites, u can use flash so that you can make nice buttons and other actionscripts.. and it's not preferable to use flash in editing movies...

If u want to have 3rd animations.. u can use Maya..

With what u want to start???
mmm..... This depends about what u want to do... Because these 3 programs are different in thier consequences..

ok..
I wish that i helped you

good luck..
