DNS has not propagated

I need a DNS change to my web site on sunday. The DNS shows the new servers, but my web site still points to the old servers.

At work (road runner) my web site points to the correct server, but at home it does not. I have road runner at home too.

My work is less then 5 miles away. Is there anything I can do?

It generally takes up to 72 hours for DNS to fully propagate.

I'm confused about your situation. Do you need to make some change on Sunday (2/1/04), like moving to a new IP address for your website?

What do you mean by "but my web site still points to the old servers"... did you link using IP addresses instead of Host names? Or do you mean at home your ISP (RR) still does not resolvel to the right IP address?

On 1-24-04 I went to netsol.com and did a DNS modification and changed the name servers from experthost.com to no-ip.com name servers.

If you go to www.rockenbach.net and see a web site, that means the domain is pointing to my web server. If you get a "page can not be displayed" that means it is still pointing to experthost.com

At work, my web site pulls up fine. Here at home, it doesnt.

From the sampling I looked at, the DNS seems to have already propagated across the Internet (checked 15 major US nameservers and several foreign nameservers).

What are the DNS server IP addresses you have when at home? (run IPCONFIG /all in a command prompt window).

the DNS servers are 65.32.1.73
65.32.2.146

When I ping rockenbach.net I get 66.165..84.147
The old hosting company...I should get 67.8.74.149

It will fix itself in time. If you really want to work on it right away you could edit your hosts file to point to the new site.

In XP it's C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Just add this line to the bottom:

67.8.74.149 www.rockenbach.net

That's just a temporary fix and should be removed when no longer necessary

Thanks golfcart, that worked as a temp fix.

Anything I can do to propagate this, or do I just have to wait it out?

Odd, that DNS server refuses my query. I'm even in the RR network when I tried.

You should try it yourself:

1) open a Command prompt
2) run nslookup
3) type server 65.32.1.73
3) tpe www.rockenbach.net

Does it return the correct IP this way?

Then change DNS servers by typing server 65.32.2.146, then do www.rockenbach.net again

Same result or different?
