Question about routers.

If I use a router for my cable modem, to a laptop, will that produce a seperate IP address for my laptop?

It will create a different LAN IP address but not public IP address. Which will allow you to have both computers on the Internet at the same time.

with a router that has a built in switch you can have several computers connected to the internet at the same time and your isp will only know of the one ip address, and the rest of the internet will not see you at all, you will a stealth system.

a router is the best way to connect to the internet.

OK, i.e. If there is a site that records your IP address, If I connected through a router, Would that same site, record a different IP address then when I first visited it? (Without the router)...I already have 3 comps sharing the ISP, through a network hub.

No. It will record the same IP. The one given to you by your ISP.
