video card went bankrupt..what do i do?
Ok, anyone know what I can do about this?
I bought a GeForce4 Ti4600 from Visiontek back in the fall of 2001. I had read great reviews on Visiontek, so that's why I decided to order from them. However, after a few months, the card went out and I used a backup card for awhile; I put the Visiontek card on the backburner. I then read about how Visiontek went bankrupt and how they had possibly used defective parts to make their cards, which got my attention. At this time (summer 2003) I called the company to get my card replaced, since it had a "Lifetime Warranty" and I had paid a pretty hefty price at the time. They agreed to repair or replace the card, and I had to send them the card with all the original packing, etc. I got this card back in the fall of 2003, and after about a week it went out again. Well, I've been emailing and calling this company and they won't do anything anymore, even though I had a lifetime warranty, because they said they aren't the same company anymore. They offered to replace my card with an ATI Radeon, and give me a very minimal credit on one of these cards. The joke is, even if I used this credit to purchase their ATI card, the cost would still be higher than if I bought from a different manucturer (the prices they're offering me are original retail prices that are outdated).
When I emailed Visiontek, this is what they said back to me:
"We are sorry but the warranty on your card has expired. The company that
provided the warranty for your card went bankrupt. Our company Hartford
purchased the rights to the name Visiontek and Xtasy. All of their
warranties were absolved within that bankruptcy. We continued the
warranty repair and replacement for their card under no obligations, but more for service to the previous customers. Due to the difficulty of getting the Nvidia based cards, we are unable to continue to provide this type of service. The only option we can offer at this time is the upgrade option which will give you an opportunity to upgrade your card to today's higher end cards. Attached to this email is the form that you need to fill out. You will need to send the completed form along with the defective card to the address indicated on the form. If you have any questions, please call our Technical Support team at 866-883-5411."
and again, the prices they're offering for the Radeon's are outrageous! Anybody know what I should do?
