My PC wont turn on and I have NO idea why!

Today I turned on my PC and it turned off by itself in about 5 minutes. When I tried to turn it on again, it went on and them turned off in about 5 seconds. After that it would not turn on at all! I wasnt overclocked and I dont think I have a virus so what could it be (power supply?)?

Remove everything from the computer except the video card. Disconnect any external hardware (including hard drives/CDrom drives etc.)...all cards except video...see if it will boot to BIOS screens. If it will POST, let it set for 10 ~ 20 minutes..see if it will shut down. If it will POST and stay running for a short time, shut down and begin to connect stuff back one at a time. You may find the problem that way.

The other possibilities might be a flaky case on/off switch trying to short out inside..which would cause the machine to shut down.. you can use the reset switch to test this with..the on/off and reset switch are the same type..and are interchangeable to use.

The other possibility would be a bad power supply.. check to see if any of the fans spin up when you try to turn the machine on with everything disconnected at mentioned above...no fans working usually mean the PSU is gone by by..

Now my computer turns on but i dont get anything on the moniter. whats wrong?

Tell us what you have done or tried so far.
What kind of computer. What is the operating system.
Did you put it together..if you did, what kind and how much RAM. What kind ov video card.

It is an ABS pc with XP pro, athlon 2600+, saphire 9700pro, 1 gig ram, asus nforce 2 mobo.

So for I havent done anything to it.

Is there a power strip or any other kind of device between the computer and the AC power socket on the wall? If there is, connect the computer directly to the wall socket.

Do the fans spin at all when you try to turn it on?...have you removed the cover where you can see inside?..

With the power cable plugged into a live wall socket..and the cover removed..try to turn it on..see if the fans spin....let us know what you see.

Disconnect everything except the monitor...and get a different video card. That means, do not connect the keyboard, mouse, hard drive(s) floppy drive, CD rom drive(s)..plug in a different video card and see if you get anything on the monitor. A PCI video card will be fine for this..doesn't need to be a very good card, anything that will show something on the monitor.

Now you say the fans spin when you turn it on...back in your first post, you said it would not turn on at all...which is it?

I would try a different power supply anyway..if one is available to borrow.

Do you hear any beeps when you turn it on?

before you start taking it all apart , try this . look and see if the fan on the heatsink is spinning when you turn it on . if it isn't then that might be the problem . newer pc's won't boot if the cpu fan is dead .

first, the fans spin including the 1 over the cpu. i tried a diffrent pci video card and i still get nothing on the moniter.
