Certification - No Degree

I have recently been looking into a company New Horizons in St. Louis. Hopefully someone is familiar with them and their programs.

They recently posted an ad, saying that they are looking for entry-level people to train and certify. They do offer temp internships and after done with the certs, which include (A+, Network+, MCSA, CCNA, & Security+) focusing on a Network Security Admin, they have job placement assistance, which they work with 3000+ companies or something. The price is steep for these programs, which after these certs, I am interested in the MCDBA.

They say they place over 50% of the people in internships or full positions. Is this a good program and should I take the 50/50 chance to find a position.

I am currently in a system analyst position, which i found with my current self-taught knowledge in VB and Access programming. I am basically just maintaining/running databases and reports for now.

I am looking to increase just my overall knowledge and money, and this looked like something I might be interested in. If this would work out, I had planned on obtaining a degree later in a related field, but don't plan on going full time. I've read some previous articles, but they are from some time ago and always with IT things change. Any comments would be appreciated.

sounds like a sales pitch to me, I know of no school, company, or employment angency that can do all that for free.

looks loke a scam, so be very carefull, and don't sign anything, or give them your credit card number.

Sorry if I didn't clarify, but they don't do this for free. They are a legit company, as I know other who have taken classes there, but not for the same thing. The prices for the 6-7 month course is very steep and I am wondering if it is worth it.

They webpage for the company is www.newhorizons.com.

Also, just to clarify, I am a quick learner and am able of picking things up that others normally wouldn't.

6-7 months to get all of these certifications sounds great, but is it likely that I can find a job and are the certifications enough to get started with the knowledge gained.

Well, Im not sure about that exact program, but new horizons itself is legit.

Most of us with certs have probably at least TESTED at new horizons centers.

But also they offer CLASSES..which is what this thread is about...I have no clue about the classes they offer....but they seem to be quite well known etc..so it would seem they would do ok with it

I appreciate all of the posts so far.

There is a tuition for these classes, which is pretty steep at around $15,000.

Keep in mind that as the last person said they are taking a 2 year course, I believe the classes I will be taking, I can have done by the end of this year. They have study classes every other week or so, i'm guessing to review info that has been taught.

Also, they offer short term paid internships to get hands on knowledge. After completing all programs, they assist in resume writing and job placement, whether it be in a full- time position or internship at another company. I believe the placement % is a little over 50%.
