aol for broadband sharing problem

Hi guys,

I am having a problem for some people I am doing a job for. They recently got AOL for broadband (gag I know). Anyways I am attempting to network their brand new computer and their old computer so they can share this broadband connection (cable connection, not DSL). Apparently from what I have found AOL for broadband doesn't like to let people share the connection, my question is how do they do this? Is it done by MAC address?

That is the only way I figure they could do it. If that is the case shouldn't this be possible when I clone the MAC address on the router. They have a netgear wired router, not sure of the model. I didn't have time to clone the address to the router or mess with the settings, but I will next time I go back. The interesting part is the router is in place and the new computer which aol was able to connect on (before the router was hooked up) is still working, but the older computer is not.

If anybody knows how AOL for broadband works, or limits connections it would be most appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Check out the AOL for Broadband FAQ and look at the questions related to Networking and Sharing. There should be enough detail there to help you get started.

I am pretty sure I did unplug the router then plug it back in when I had the router in place. Oh I should mention that the computer that can't connect is able to ping the router. I will try that again though HeadBand.

AOL for Broadband

Not sure if I can help you but I just hooked up a wireless US Robotics router to share the AOL (works great for our househould) connection in our house. I'm using another ISP - "Zoomtown", and subscribe to AOL's bring your own access plan. After I got the router conncection established, we were able to log on to AOL without problem. Each user must log on under their own unique screen/user name. If I try and log on with the same name at both computers, the one already logged on get knocked off.
