Windows 2000 Pro -- Updating?

Fellow Members,

As you can read by the name of this thread, I use Windows 2000 Pro. I find it very curious that I am receiving updates just about every day. Has this been a common experience for other Windows 2000 professional users?

Thanks!

Brangwen

There are many ficticious MS UPDATES recieved via email that are really a virus or link to one using the IE spoof vulnerability. Meaning they look like links to MS' sites for updates but they really are not.

As a quick reference look at my example closely... http://65.169.173.12/ieproblem/example.html

... the SignIn.ebay.com link doesn't really go to that site even though it really looks like it. Clcik on my link though, it is safe.

Also note the TechIMO news thread that indirectly links to http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q834489

I have mine set to manual and check once or twice a week.
I've only had one, maybe two, critical updates so far this year.

Yep, just checked with Belarc Advisor, had one update this year on 15JAN04. There are no critical updates at this time on mine.

My current:
Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4 (build 2195)

Here's a link to Belarc it's a rather useful utility.

I haven't had to update my W2K pro in WEEKS. Maybe even months.
I've been running the same install of 2K now for about 6 months now with the only updates being the ones that I actually went to the sight to look for and download.

I just finished this new 'puter and installed Win 2K Pro. did the up dates and saw nothing new. Last new install Win 2K Pro over 6 months ago. I usually disable the "automatic" updates and check
once a week when I run adaware, spybot, and virus scan.
