Delayed write error at certain part of harddrive

I've got this weird problem where when it reads right to a certain point on the drive, it gives a write delayed error. I look at event viewer and it says to change wires, but that didn't help. HDD regenator didn't pick anything up and the Maxtor utility doesn't seem to work. So i tried to delete the partition and reformat but the same thing happens. If I make a partition before that part of the drive, it's fine. When I get there it just says cannot complete format.
Can heat be a problem in this case? Is there any other programs to test for harddrives?

Raidmax 868 case
Athlon 2500+
Shuttle AN35N
generic 512mb pc3200
Maxtor 40 gb diamondmax
leadtek ti4200 vivo

It's not a "write delayed" error, it's an error during a delayed write.

This means your operating system has buffered some data to be written to the drive, and has later failed to actually do so. This is usually due to a physically bad sector on the drive. With IDE drives, that happens. They don't have a defect management worth speaking of, unlike SCSI HDDs. That's one of the reasons IDE is so cheap.

Either that or the head had got damaged and it sounds like your hdd is on the way out.
Is it still under warranty?

Yes, I have just recently bought the drive. 3 drives, 2 down then I guess...

Will maxtor let you return the harddrive with a problem like that?

Is there any other hdd utility that might fix the problem?

Don't really like trying to send the thing in.

Well maxtor has a warranty that will cover the drive, you will need to check the maxtor drive with a program from maxtor.
http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/downloads/powermax.htm
If it does turn out to be defective from the test then either return it to the store if your warranty is still good there, if not maxtor wont have a problem taking it back, you will just need to look at their site for RMA's and you will have to only pay the S&h there, it should come to about 5-10 dollars to return it depending on priority or insurance, I recommend insurance as it wont cost too much extra and may save you money or get you a new hdd
Do look into it tho, if it is bad, maxtor will send you a new one.
