I've been trying to read through the previous messsages, but I'm not finding the exact same situation as I've got.
I have a P4 proc I just mounted onto a new motherboard, and into a new case. I have everything mounted properly, everthing's hooked up right...all the wires/plugs are firmly seated in their appropriate spots. I've gutted the puppy and re-installed/mounted everything 3 times now, to make sure my connections were right.
When I start to boot, it runs through it's checks, then gives me the 'missing NTLDR' message, suggesting I hit ctrl/alt/del to reboot. The first time I got this message was after the 3rd install of everything...before that, I didn't get the message, but the machine would just shut off before doing anything other than checks, or before I could make any CMOS/BIOS changes (heck, before I could even enter the areas I needed to check for possible changing).
Now, I get that message about every other boot try, but the machine's still shutting itself down arbitrarily before I can actually do anything with it.
I've tried with boot CD, floppy, I've tried without anything at all in either drive. I've tried with the MB setup disc....it keeps shutting down when it feels like it, and the few times it's made it to the screen asking how I want to start (safe/normal/?), it shuts down before the countdown's complete.
I thought maybe it was a HD problem...so I hooked that one up to my computer, saved what needed to be saved, and reformatted. I have a clean HD, in other words....trying to install WinXP Pro.
Anyone got any ideas why it keeps shutting itself down? I figure the NTLDR problem will get solved, but not without being able to keep the darn thing on!
Any suggestions welcomed....any more info needed, just ask, I'll do my best.
