Why is my internet lagging?

Ok, first off this is my system specs just for furture ref.:

Shuttle AN35[N] - 400 Mobo
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
512 MB Buffalo PC3200 DDR400 RAM
PNY GeForce4 Ti4200 8x VGA
30 Gig Maxtor HDD 7200 RPM


Well, when i first got my Broadband connection, it was running smoothly, Nice ping in games. Id say around low 40's to mid 50's - 60's. Now, my internet lags, My download bandwidth is like 190 and my upload is liek 19-25.. Plus, my ping went to an all time HIgh of 99's - 120's. I dont know whats going on. Could it be my ISP? Im getting this AOL broadband from my dad's work or something. And on a 10baseT hub by SOHO. Please help out with any comments or knowledge, i am on my AIM account all the time, so if you could, IM me with more info.

I would recommend you running some spyware utils to see if you have that on your computer.

Spyware can make your computer sloooooow way down when surfing or downloading on the internet.

A good free spyware utility to download is AD-AWARE.

It could also be affected by the rampant spread of MyDoom. If that's the case, you'll just have to ride it out, like everyone else.

Whats MyDoom, I have used adaware.. but my lag still continues.. now my ping is about 80's.. still not as good as before. 30 - 40 ping makes a big difference to me

could also be your isp. Assuming your provider uses cable, not dsl. My roadrunner connection goes from blazing to horibly slow from time to time. Cable broadband makes you share bandwidth with your neighbors. Check to see if your performance varies from time of day.
