Screwed up dependiencies

Everytime I try to compile something simple in Linux, something always screws up bigtime! Now, when I need to install a .tgz in slackware with pkgtool in order to compile something, I'm greeted with this:

Quote:
/sbin/ldconfig: /lib/libgdk_pixbuf.so.2 is not a shared object file (Type: 768).

/sbin/ldconfig: /lib/libgdk_pixbuf.so is not a shared object file (Type: 768).

/sbin/ldconfig: /lib/libgdk_pixbuf.so.2.0 is not a shared object file (Type: 768).

/sbin/ldconfig: /lib/libgdk_pixbuf_xlib.so.2.0 is not a shared object file (Type: 768).

/sbin/ldconfig: /lib/libgdk_pixbuf_xlib.so.2 is not a shared object file (Type: 768).

/sbin/ldconfig: /lib/libgdk_pixbuf_xlib.so is not a shared object file (Type: 768).
That happens every time I go to install a tgz, even if it's pixbuf itself. Grrr....

Where are you getting the tgz packages? Are they for the correct version of slack?

The pixbuf I'm trying to install came direct from Slack's website.

Can you uninstall it?
That shouldn't affect the functionality of the base system, just progs that use that library. It sounds like its been corrupted, and if you could remove it, then install it again, you might get lucky.
Run ldconfig in between and after doing that though. (slack's package manager probably does this, but best to be sure.)

meh, just tried that. The pkgtool program does support removing packages, but it seems to hang on removing one. Left it for abut 10 minutes, nothing happened. checked the tail thing, said it was Romoving Files: .

I also tried running emerde to get this package, but it won't compile right.

Lemme try one more thing...

Okay, I know what's wrong now. Apparently thee is a package called '--2' in the package list. It doesn't seem to do anything (I know what this is, it's a failed convertedd package'. I have it set to remove, but it can't because the program sees it as an option, not a filename. Grrr. Any way to manually remove a package?

maybe you could use pkgtool rather than the command line. That way it might not get confused about the --2.
Just a thought.
Maybe you could enclose the package name in quotes like:
removepkg "screwed-rpm-thing--2.tgz"
I don't have a slackware box anymore, just Gentoo and debian, so I'm clutching at straws just now, but I'll try and think some more.

I tried the "" thing, didn't work (did the same thing).

Pkgtool says that it removed the package, but it's still there.

Maybe you could extract the tar.gz package file and just delete the files that are inside it.
i.e. extract it and if there's a /usr/lib/libfoo.so.4 file in it, delete that file.
I can't seem to find out where slack keeps its package database, but if you've got a slack box in front of you it shouldn't take too long.
