Kids Two network adapters connected to the same server?

Hi all, long time no see .

We have a computer here at work that we want to make two network connections to the server with. We've been running into problems with IP addresses, and Windows apparently doesn't like that they are connected to the same destination.

Is there any way to fool Windows into thinking it's just one network connection? Or perhaps get around Windows' limitations? I specialized in hardware, but I'm the closest thing the company has to a network guy.

Thanks

In my experiences Windows 2K/XP don't mind having two network adapters on the same network so long as you don't enable routing to.

With certain NICs you can use a Connection Teaming type function to make the cards work together. This is dependent on the driver though.

If you give more detail on what you are trying to accomplish I may be able to give some suggestions.

Using two adaptors to reach the same servers over the same subnet is not a good idea... if you are trying to increase bandwidth it doesn't work.

you also would not want to bridge the same connection, that would cause a lot more problems

I disagree. It can increase bandwidth in certain circumstances. As an example, with Connection Teaming and the appropriate switch, you can multiply the bandwidth to that server.

Look under Link Aggregation on this link http://support.intel.com/support/net...g.htm#Features

Thanks guys, I'll have to look into the XP bridging feature.

My supervisor's intent was to increase bandwidth. As far as feasibility goes, I guess I'll find out soon enough.
