hard disk clicking - now not, weird?

Hi

My computer froze, and couldn't recover - so I booted it (hard boot), and on restart, the hard disk was clicking (not sure it was the hard disk, just assuming) mentally. And the computer wouldn't go any further once the clicking started.

I leave it for a day (backed up my data), and come back to start my computer normally - no clicking noises, nothing, and works perfectly. I ran scandisk to check for errors/bad clusters, it returned no errors or bad clusters.

What's up with that?

Hard to say for sure, but keep that data backed up, or better yet - make an image of the drive if you can. Those kinda problems have a bad habit of coming back.

What is the cause though - physically? I've got a Sony VAIO 816s (I forgot to mention in my initial post). I haven't heard good things about sony support. I'll see what they're like now.

The problem with hard drives when they begin to click is the heads inside. Possibly going and coming from the parked position. It could also be the heads banging on the inside frame. I have one that died on me last September..it also began with a clicking sometimes...now all it will do is click...click...click. I plan on taking it apart one day soon and run it while it is open so I can see where that clicking is coming from.
