Power question

I have an old computer that was put together a while ago. It currently lacks a power supply. It's a PIII 500 MHz with a cd drive, a CD-RW drive, fairly old motherboard(hot661 I beleive), and a single fan in the back along with the cooling for the CPU. Is there any way to figure out how big of a power supply to stick in it? All of the ones I see now are rated for AMD processors or P4 ready. I blew a power supply in it some how and had no idea how big it was (label was worn off). Is there some method to calculate this for any machine?

Presterjohn is right, 250w will do, but if you cant find an old 250w psu, then you might be able to find a 300w psu for cheap, both will work tho.

Be sure it is an AT type supply..unless of course you know it to be ATX. That was about the time ATX type motherboards were beginning to show up.

I have bought brand new 250/300 watt Fortron AT supplies at eBay for $10 bucks...plus shipping

i think a P3 mobo is already an ATX form factor.. because ,my previous p3 450Mhz/epox mobo is already ATX. and the PSU is only 235Watts.

ummmm the AT form factor was replaced by the transition from socket 7 to slot1-370 so no there is no way the p3 was ever AT
