LCD Mod Questions.

I'm wanting to install an LCD into a HTPC i'm working on and i'm wondering which one everyone recommends. I've looked at both matrix orbital and crystal fontz sites and i really can't decided so i figured id come here and ask.. i'm looking for something to show winamp info and DVD info (if possible) among other undecided info. i'd prefer to mount it myself and dont want somehting liek the drive bay kits, but i also dont want to have to solder anything. Im thinkin i want a 20X2 for as little as possible but very easy to setup and use. what do y'all suggest?

thanks

Are you dismantling the lcd or useing as is? Several models allow the ribbon to swing away from TFT though still frail. Just be carefull bending it and all that. The control board needs to be grounded other than that-your imagination is the limit. I make Front and Rear large screen projection tv's outta stripped lcd's.

i meant a small monochrome LCD screen like on a VCR or DVD Player not a large monitor LCD.

You mean something like this?

http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=PCM-4

Maybe not the highest quality but doesnt sound like you need that anyway. You would still have to play with it a bit but it sounds like the size you want.

Been thinking about this myself for some time now.

no i meant something like this to display winamp info or if possible DVD title and or chapter info using LCDC. THis one is ~$70 yet they have others that are ~$25, i want to konw what the difference is and which will eb the easiest to setup and use.

I give the exact same advice to everyone: pick the software you want to run first and then buy a display that it supports.

MO and CF both have excellent stuff, but don't buy before you look at programs like LCDInfo, LCDStudio, PowerLCD, or LiquidMP3.

LCDC is also excellent, but limited to MO text displays.

Buy from one of the 2, they have been doing it the longest---they now make the interface very simple via usb and there is more then 1 choice of software making it very easy, the baykit would be quickest as you would be up and running in minutes---wacking a hole in your case will take longer since you will have to strip it to keep chips outta things---go for it!
