Pictures on web not showing

I stated a thread in the Community forum about this thinking it was a TechIMO "hiccup." Well after a few replies and trying a few things I don't think that is the problem anymore so I thought I'd expand the topic to the support form.

If I'm in error please let me know and I appologize.

Moving on...

Here's a breakdown of what I've been experiencing.

I got onto Techimo and everything was seeming to work fine. Then I started noticing that not all the icon and images where showing up. I thought it was a techimo hiccup but now I don't know.

I've tried clearing my internet cache & cookies (yummy ), rebooting, checking to make sure the "Show picture" option was checked, and I think a couple of other things. But nothing.

It then seemed to affect other sites, but not consistantly. One moment www.slashdot.org works the next it doesn't. Also my Companies website was doing the same thing. www.southern.edu (I'm a staff member at the school).

I've tried updating IE, scanning for virus, using ad-aware to check for unwanted programs. Since none of it found anything, I decided to download Firebird and now everything seems to be okay with the pictures.

One other thing I noticed with IE was that it looked like it wanted to load the pictures, there were placeholders and one somesites it said it still had (for example) 5 items remaining in the status bar. However, it would continue and continue for a long time and nothing would ever happen. It seems that it mostly (not aways) was tring to load things form a different URL. Like Techimo was loading stuff from resellerrattings.com (yes I know they are the same company and such).

This also happens on other sites when all the images doesn't seem to load.

I think Epidemic was also having trouble, but I don't know to what extent. Maybe he'll let us know as well.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
LK

In IE, go to

General tab
Settings button in Temporary Internet Files
Tic the bubble that says "Every visit to the page"

Also, are you behind a proxy server or anything like that?

I'm was using IE 5.5 but upgraded to 6.0 because of the problems.

I've cleard Temp internet files a couple of times. Nothing. Just tried to set to "Every visit to the page" and I get even less it seems before it starts saying "4 items remaining" and then sits and sits.

Now it also affect every page with IE and nothing is showing or it is at least very very very very very slow. I wouldn't even catagorize it as that because it think it would time out, but I never let it so that long. Maybe I will to see what will happen.

I'd check to see if you have a proxy between you and the web. If it does it w/ all your browsers, then it's probably not your machine or a setting but your network. They may block from certain URL's or something to that effect.

My bet is on some sort of proxy or firewall.

The other wiered thing is that althought the images don't show and it seems to load the page for a long time, that if I highlight the page and paste into a word processing program the images show up.

I'll check about the proxy, but I don't think we have one here. Maybe the Network admins are playing with the firewall.

Firebird doesn't have any problems, only IE. Would you still consider it a proxy issue?

It also apears that I'm the only one in the office being affected.

I think I had anothe comment but I don't know what it was.

oh yeah. I'll be back after lunch and will be will to try other options to see if we can solve this.

You said you had "Show pictures" checked, make sure you don't also have "Show image download placeholders" checked as well. I think the placeholders option overrides the pictures.

You might also check you LAN settings on the Connections tab in IE and make sure it's not trying to connect to a proxy server if you don't have one. If you do, make sure it's connecting to the correct one.

My problem is that when I go into

www.Techimo.com my problems begin.

After clearing all cookies and files and history. while on a non techimo site then closing the browser and returning to WWW.TECHIMO/forums all is good with the world until I hit techimo.com only then boom icky poo missing most of my buttons like new thread, profile, pm...

I am currently fine but I am avoiding techimo home page like the plague.

After the problem happens on techimo.com it carries through to other sites to varying degrees.

I am currently on IE 5.5 blah blah blah.
