Outdoors stupid card reader

I got one of those Compaq keyboards from AMEX with the keyboard mounted smart card reader, and the damn thing isn't working. I have tried many different things, and it still won't run.

I get a error from a program called Gemplus SmartDiag 2.0 saying that the install of Microsoft Smart Card Base Components is corrupt.

I also get this from a device called Grserial:

Cannot create more device.

and this:

The GrSerial service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the device specified.

what is going on? This is pissing me off, and not making any damn since. trying to install this thing on a windows 95 computer just resorts in a stupid "network connection not allowed" or some dumbass error.

I give up. What is going on? Do I need these microsoft smart card base components? does anyone have anything better then that?

Windows 2000 professional is my O/S.

Are you certain you have the up-to date-software for the device? I always try to get the latest drivers from the manufacturer before I try the packaged ones.
Have you check Microsoft Update?

I'll check microsoft update, and that is it. Mucking around on the compaq/hp/third reich site does not bring up anything. I can't find updated drivers on hp's worthless site.

Nothing is even mentioned about the keyboard on the site, except for a feature document.

If you want to post the model number of the keyboard I'll take a look around and see what I can find for you.

A smart card is a type of flash memory card like compact flash or secure media. Not a magnetic stripe reader.

Model: SK-3320

Compaq P/N: 115505-006

that is what is on the bottom of the keyboard.

Glad to hear you got it working nochay.
I did find out that reader is configured from the factory to use com port 1 only. The reason you got the weird error in the W95 machine is that it is totally unsupported.
