2 things about linux that bothers me

First off im a complete noob to linux, im still learning but two things that really bother me

I have a remote drive I share off music that I play over the network in winamp. I load up xmms and I try to play the songs over the network and they don’t play. I have to copy them over to my hard drive then play them

Second thing isn’t something that is annoying but makes me wonder, why is it when you change the resolution you have to log out and log back in? While in windows it is automatically done

You can simplmy mount the network drive and stream it over the network just as if you were in windows.

What type of drive is this? (Windows share?) If so

mount -t smbfs -o username=USER //Server/share /mnt/point

Haha, my avatar is no one famous, but *may* be familiar to some who remember the events of awhile back.

if you have the resolution already set in your xf86config file then you don't have to log out and back in

I can change resolution without logging out and then logging back in. I use the screen resolution app in gnome.

or just hold ctrl-alt and use plus and minus to go through the resolutions set in XF86Config, no relogging needed
