Using different restore disk?

Can I use a restore disk from another computer on my grandmothers computer? They both use windows 98.

no it will check the hardware i think...mabey if it is the exact same model but i dont know it micht check something specific

If you are referring to an actual "restore" cd, like an HP, Dell etc it will only work if the 2nd computer is the exact same model. Otherwise it will install the wrong drivers for the modem, sound, video etc. Or it may stop in the middle of the restore process. If you don't have a restore disk for your grandmother's pc you need a Windows 98 cd.

The only possible way..is if it goes ahead and works......then when you reboot after it is finished you need to reboot to safe mode....then run "regedit"....then go to the "hkey local machine/enum" folder and delete the folder..the reboot again..it will redetect all the hardware in the new machine..you might have to reboot several times.

Also you may have to then look in the device manager for things that have been detected twice (like the keyboard, it always gets detected twice)..delete those items and let em get detected again.

Then of course youd have to get drivers for everything etc
