bios and chip sets

I purchased a Web Cam Pro from Creative. My son can't hear us on either this computer or my laptop. He knows he is not the problem as he can hear others with web cams. My microphone is set on in my settings and know that all computer settings for audio and volume are correct. The company tells me that my audio is on my motherboard and that I need to update my bios and chipset. Not sure how to. My motherboard is a K7SEM . The back of the book says it is a Version 1.0a. It is a MicroATX motherboard that uses a 4-layer printed circuit board and 244 mm x 220 mm. It can support 100MHz and CPU and the majority of the 133MHz AMD CPU's. I use Windows XP. Really need help. I tried one download site suggested in this forum but it came out in an Asian language. Thanks.

One way to check the mic is to start the windows "sound recorder"...start it recording and see if it shows "audio waves" when you talk.

On windows 98 the sound recorder can be found under "programs, accesories, entertainment"

If you right click the vol icon in the taskbar and click "open volume controls"...do you see "microphone" in there?? if so, is it turned up some..and make sure if its there that is isnt muted with the little check box.

If you dont HAVE a little vol (speaker) icon then you have to put it there....I am not on an xp machine right now, but you do something like go to control panel/multimedia and there is a check box for "show vol icon in system tray" (or something like that)

I have never personally heard of a bios flash (bios update) having anything to do with something like this.

Where EXACTLY is the microphone plugged into??
