compaq presario Xp intall probs - help pls.

im new here so a big hello to everyone first!

ok, i am trying to fix a compaq presario 725ea laptop for a work friend, he had xp home on it but something went wrong and sometimes it will work fine other times xp fails to load properly, so the HD got wiped with the intention of putting xp pro on, then found that xp pro wont work on the machine( this i have read a few times also).

SO...... basic prob is when i go to install xp home, i get the very first set of blue setup screens( where it is loading drivers etc) then it says " please wait" and then the machine shuts down!!, this happens if i try using the 6 floppy disc " setup" set or direct from the cd, same happens if you just put in the xp pro cd.

any ideas what the prob could be??

it's not getting too hot is it? my presario laptop (710 i think) has heat problems. if i run too intensive stuff on it (games or dvds) and the room is not cold, it just shuts down.
