I bought SAMS teach yourself PHP, Apache and SQL in 24 hours and it is very good. I've seen the book you're talking about but decided to go with this one because of the added sections on Apache, I don't use mySQL anyway. I have C++ background which made it easier, but after reading that book, I feel confident in taking on a PHP project of any size.
