That's really not necessary. Today's boards with on-board IDE RAID have no issues running single drives connected to one of the RAID controller slots in non-RAIDed configuration.
golfcart was correct about checking the settings in BIOS to disable boot from "SCSI device" and turn off RAID in BIOS.
I've done just that on two different mobos (EPoX 8K3A+, 8K5A2+)
[EDIT]I just double checked my 8K3A+ manual, and when RAID is disabled, the two controllers simply function as IDE3 and IDE4. All you need to do is set IDE3 (or -4) as the boot device (after floppy, CD, whatever, as you prefer).[/EDIT]
