Welcome to techimo It sounds like you have an onboard RAID controller. Do you have the hard drive plugged into the RAID controller or the standard ATA controller? If it's the latter, just go in the BIOS and turn RAID off and make sure it is not set to boot from "SCSI or other devices"

You installed in the mobo alone? I mean, did it come in seperate parts?

Yes, you would want to format your HDD (..again ). Then fixdisk, to make numbers of partition you desired and then reinstall your operating system.

Like goldcart had said. Check that in

Welcome to TechIMO.

It does sound like he's got it plugged in the raid controller.

You just got one hard drive? Make sure the hard drive cable is plugged into the "primary IDE" controller...not the Raid controller.

That's really not necessary. Today's boards with on-board IDE RAID have no issues running single drives connected to one of the RAID controller slots in non-RAIDed configuration. golfcart was correct about checking the settings in BIOS to disable boot from "SCSI device" and turn off RAID in BIOS.

I've done just that on two different mobos (EPoX 8K3A+, 8K5A2+)

[EDIT]I just double checked my 8K3A+ manual, and when RAID is disabled, the two controllers simply function as IDE3 and IDE4. All you need to do is set IDE3 (or -4) as the boot device (after floppy, CD, whatever, as you prefer).[/EDIT]
