ICS on WIN XP

My ICS was working just fine for months, and now all of a sudden I can't access the Internet from my other WIN98 computer.

I've read that ICS is supposed to assign 192.168.0.1 to my XP machine which I'm trying to share from. It keeps defaulting to 169.254.137.1. What can be happening here?

I have switched my NIC's around so that the one that was connected to the cable modem is now connected to the WIN98 machine and vice versa and it does the same thing, only on the other NIC. I can still acces the internet just fine from the XP machine, no matter which NIC is connected. When this started I could still access the files over the network, but now it's so screwed up it won't do that anymore.

If I hook the WIN98 machines NIC up to the cable modem it accesses the internet just fine also.

HELP!!

Mate,
169.254.x.y is called APIPA. Automatic Private IP Addressing. This is saying that your 98 computer cant find any kind of DHCP server on the network, nor is there any statically assigned IP address to this machine. I need to know, your obviously running a router, Wireless or wired? Than i may be able to help ya bud. BTW, has nothign to do with the NICs.

Cheers,
Dan

Dan's right (normal for an Aussie! ). Probably not getting an IP from wherever it should. Was the IP entered manually, or is it dished out by a router?

Cheers
Mick (another right Aussie! )
