Google: Search results inadequate

I read that sometime in Oct or Nov (i forget which) google changed their search algorithm, and it is obvious that it leaves something to be desired. The first result for a brandname product is someone talking about it on a messege board, etc.

What are your thoughts on this, and what are some good replacements for google in terms of powerful searches?

I always use the advanced search options on google.

But I use Copernic Pro most of the time. Gives be better control over my searches and even checks for bad results!

I see Google search image engine are similar to Yahoo. Nothing much different result.

I don't use Google search for stuff and only using Yahoo as standards.

I've compared google to other search engines and it seems to be one of the best and fastest. I always use google and froogle.
