Hi all,

I am considering jumping into the 21st century and upgrading to broadband. Downloading is soooooo slow.

Anyway, right now I have an internal modem plugged into a phone line for dial-up AOL.

What all do I need to get broadband (hardware, provider, etc.)?

you would need an ethernet card for your computer, and give the ISP a call...

that's it.

They should supply you with the rest.

to connect to broadband you will need a ethernet and modem (which most of the time the isp will provide, a rental charge will be applied for the modem but you can buy your own modem)

What type of broadband is available in the area. Cable? DSL?
How many computers? will you need to connect?
If you use cable all you need is a cable modem and service You can usually provide your own modem or the cable company will "rent" you one as part of the connection package. They usually can be connected through usb, or you can add a NIC ad connect to the modem that way too. One usually comes with the modem
