Ti4200 on a new motherboard...

Hi all, hope you can help me.

I have an old (but reliable) 4200ti graphics card (4x) and have bought a nice new a7n8x-x motherboard (with 8x AGP). Will my card work okay with this motherboard or will I run risk of damaging it? (I am unsure of all the voltage talk!)

Any help gratefully received!

Kirk

Yes you can run it on that board. There is no risk of damaging it because of the motherboards capability to run agp8x.

That's great - cheers. Am I right in saying that the card is 1.5 volt? and that AGP 4x is 1.5 volt? or have I got that completely wrong?

Cheers.....

I suck at physics, don't understand a bit about volts or watts.

I've understood that newer cards require loads of power, and need some extra plugs or whatever for that. However, older cards should still run just fine.

My friend has a7n8x board and ti4200.

This is my old spec PC: Athlon 1200 (266FSB) 512MB SDRAM. 4200 TI card, ASUS A7A266 M/B.

New Spec: Athlon 2800XP (333 FSB and Barton Core), ASUS A7NX-X M/B/ 512MB PC3200 RAM.

Will I notice a really big improvement for games?

I am drooling big time and cant wait to build the bugger over the weekend!

Also, will the fact that the memory is 400MHZ and not 333MHZ make any problems...

Thanks for your continued help. I like this forum!

yes you should . everything should run alot smoother .

nope just run the memory at 100% , i think that what it says in the bios , so it runs at the same speed of the cpu and you are all good .

Yeah, you probably will notice some difference. You're making a huge leap in generations there.

Hmm... You won't gain the full potential of 200mhz memories as your cpu fsb is still 166.

Sweet, been 2 years since I upgraded my PC... now all I have to worry about is if my 300 Watt PSU can handle it all.

Thanks for the replies folks.

Made me feel a lot happier!

It will be running near it's limits. Here's a power supply calculator.
