I was wondering if i could make my system fast enough to play dvd's (free preferably). Its a pII 450 with 128megs of ram, a 6 gig scsi drive, a 16x dvd drive, and an 80 gig hard drive. Thanx, i really need help on this one.

Everything I've read says you need at least a 500 mhz cpu to play dvd so you might overclock your cpu although I had a 600 mhz cpu and never got good playback with it (with a software decoder).
You could also get a hardware decoder for it. Creative Labs use to have one, the Dxr3, but I don't know if they still sell them. I used that with my 600 cpu and it worked great.

well... you need some DVD software which isnt free unless you already have it and you probably will want more RAM as you are doing a software Decode... you could probably find a MPEG2 decoder card on E-bay really cheap which will decode the movies for you and let your processor do other things.
