DVD drive playback prob

Yea, i just got a dvd drive for free, and i installed it to find out that it wouldn't play dvds right off the bat. I got some decoders online, and installed the dvd player that came with a movie, so it does play dvds. However, when it plays them, the sound is choppy, and the video skips sometimes. The problem doesn't seems to be related to the dvd drive reading the dvd (every time the read light comes on (often) the drive chops up the sound). I'm running a PII 450 with 128 megs of ram and an 80 gig hd, so i don't really see a problem with that, i think it might be the drive itself. Thanks for posting.

I don't think your system is up to par for dvd viewing dvd playback without the problem your having.
you may need a faster cpu to do the processing and more ram to handle the graphics.

Not enuff pc power for software encoding. You'll need a Hollywood card o similar to do it. Under 600mhz its rare to get smooth software codec playback.

can i do anything to make my system fast enough to playback dvds, that doesn't involve spending much (if any) money?
