Asrock K7VM2 and Sound

Need of help and advice from the experts.

I purchased 2 of these boards and assembled the system, with 98Se and all the drivers on the supplied disk. However no sound whatsoever, from the sound output on the MB. If I plug into the Headset socket on the front of the CD I get sound. There is not even any windows sounds startup etc.

Tried all the usual places checking the drivers were installed, and speakers were selected in the multi media section, and there was no mute on.

System number 2 exactly the same. A friend of mine also bought from a different shop yesterday and exactly the same problem.

I feel I have missed something really obvious eg jumpers etc, anyone suggest what I should try, except go back to my old faithful 810 motherboard.

I use these boards for many of my customers builds....You could try unplugging the front auio header and that may solve it. Otherwise go to their site and download their driver sets for win98, and restart after installing them. I have had trouble like yours before, and it turned out that the front header (when enabled) disables the rear sound jacks...lol....funny huh?

Front header can certianly cause it. Ive found that on MANY mobo's the case header ports are useless including the usb. Mainly Asus boards. Asrock being its budget deivision Im sure its similar.
