Must reinstall sound codecs/missing sounds?

Hello. Just reformated a semi-new system, and having some sound oddities:

Installed Nimo Codec pack and some other things. Winamp works fine, but videos played in Zoomplayer have no sound. I install the DefilerPak, and ZoomPlayer starts working fine. A few days later I install Splinter Cell, but there's no speech in the game (rest of the sound is fine). So I reinstall DefilerPak again, and it's fine. Now, today, Splinter Cell's sound is fine for a while, then I lose a lot of the sound (speech, some effects) as I play. Later, I now have no sound in ZoomPlayer again (but works fine in WinAmp). Reinstalled DefilerPak, even installed AC3Filter. No help.

Why are my sound codecs and all messed up? Any suggestions? I'd really like to use ZoomPlayer instead of WinAmp, and the problems in-game bother me. Thanks for the help.

Nothing related to AC3 is listed under "audio codecs." I think. Why wouldn't this be the case? Is it installing properly?

OK, i think I (temporarily) fixed it using a guide on the Zoom Player site. I unregistered 100% of my codecs, then reregistered just the basic windows ones (and I guess the AC3 came along for the ride). I'll test the games tomorrow, but looking better right now. Let me know if you all have any other tips. (Besides to stay away from codec packs! haha)
