dvd from vhs burning

i want to put on dvd some football games and they are 3 hours long so i can preserve them....is it better with dvd? how can i get the most perfect looking copy possible..withou t jumping and skipping .....i shut everything down but that.....clock taskbar...virus ....disable my net connection...my harddrive is 2.83 ghz 512 mb of ram and my hard drive is partioned to 2...1 is just for dvd burning which is 89.1 gb is there anything else i can do? i use sonic my dvd...which is the best program to burn and edit dvd's? i use the ati wonder

Have you tried burning any of your VHS to DVD yet? I haven't used that software, but it should tell you how much (timewise) you can fit on a DVD. Try adjusting the quality downwards a little until the whole thing will fit on a DVD. Hopefully the quality will be close to the same as your original video.
